At ScrapAntics, we believe in the power of community and collaboration to make a difference. During ScrapThursday, our weekly community drop in sessions, we have partnered with the NHS Health Inclusion Nursing Team to offer free health checks to support individuals with personal health issues.
These drop-in clinics have proven to be a lifeline for many, particularly during a time when getting an appointment with a doctor can feel almost impossible.
Over the past six months (July to December 2024) the NHS team offered 95 individual consultations and six holistic health assessments. These figures reflect not only the dedication of the nurses but also the trust and engagement of our community members.
Total consultations: 95
Signposted to GPs: 13, including cases for medication reviews, pain management, and specialised health concerns.
Clinical measurements performed: 57
Weights recorded: 90, ensuring our community has the tools to monitor key health indicators.
Holistic health assessments: 6
Each session was tailored to meet the unique needs of attendees. For example:
In July, 25 individuals received consultations, with three referred for GP medication reviews and one connected to a dental van.
In October, a busy session saw 25 attendees, including a baby, receiving weight checks and 25 clinical measurements.
Our December session served 15 attendees, with multiple referrals to specialised support services, including the International Women’s Centre.
These statistics are more than just numbers; they represent worries addressed, and steps taken toward better health. The holistic approach of the wonderful nurses—taking time to assess and connect people with the appropriate services—ensures that individuals leave our space feeling supported and informed.
Why ScrapThursdays Matters
The success of this initiative underscores the importance of accessible healthcare. For many, attending our sessions is a practical solution to the challenges of scheduling a GP appointment.
Beyond medical support, ScrapThursdays has become a space where people feel heard and valued, fostering a deeper sense of community and well-being. We make crafts together, share food, play games and connect.
Thank you to the NHS nurses, our community members, and everyone who makes ScrapThursdays a success. Together, we’re building a healthier, stronger community—one session at a time.
